![]() ![]() ![]() Sure, Resident Evil 3 is a lot more linear than RE2, but it still maintains a lot of the same key-hunting puzzle-solving gameplay the franchise is famous for. But it’s not just here to look pretty it’s also fantastic to play through. The streets of Racoon City might just be one of the best showcases for Capcom’s (relatively) new RE Engine. Racoon City has been wonderfully realised in the remake you saw hints of it throughout Resident Evil 2’s remake, but actually walking some of its streets and alleys in person is a fantastic experience. ![]() Operation Racoon CityĪnd now we’ll talk about the real star of Resident Evil 3: its setting. And mastering this new dodge gets really important, especially once Nemesis starts using weapons. Jill now has a dodge, which covers a greater distance in a flash when you’re running around time it right with a zombie’s (or Nemesis’) attack, however, and Jill will do a fancy flip through her assailant’s attack, with an improved recovery time on her dodge animations. Speaking of controlling Jill, she has a couple of new moves that really support Resident Evil 3’s more action-oriented mission and level design. Make no mistake, however, you’ll definitely need to get good at controlling Jill if you want to make it out of Racoon City alive. Despite Resident Evil 3’s harder emphasis on action, it still maintains a constant tension by limiting how much ammo and healing items you’re going to have access to. And as is series tradition, you’ll run out of ammo quite often. For one, her knife can’t break, making it a great back-up weapon in case you run out of ammo. When it comes to combat, Jill is definitely much better than Leon. The dynamics between Jill and Carlos are great, and definitely show both characters developing a grudging respect for one another. So really, it’s no wonder that Jill largely distrusts the Umbrella soldiers she’s forced to work with. She has, after all, been through the hellish events of the Arklay Mountain incident, and Umbrella has definitely been gunning after her, ruining her reputation and trying to kill her. Unlike Resident Evil 2’s Leon Kennedy – who was first introduced to the franchise in that game – Jill definitely has a more complete arc to her story. And our old pal also frequently gets upgrades from just his fists and tentacles to flamethrowers and rocket launchers, Nemesis has it all, and he really only has one thing in his mind: the murder of Jill Valentine. ![]()
